Module 5: Lascaux Virtual Tour Travel Log

For this module we took a virtual tour of cave art in France. Unfortunately, as interesting and valuable as this art is, our rediscoery of these pieces have disrupted the enviornment of the cave, and caused many microorganisms to grow on the walls. Preservationinsts are trying to figure out how to stop this biodegradation soon before the microbes ruin the art.

This piece is called Les Bissons Adossés, which translates to The Bissons Backed. It is found in a region of the cave called La Nef.The white impurities on the right bisson is caused by a bacterial growth.

This panel is called Les Signes, or The Signs. It is also found in La Nef region, just to the right of Les Bissons Adossés. These greenish biofilms are caused by a green algae.

This panel is called La Grande Vache Noir, or the Large Black Cow. This is also found in La Nef region, in between Les Bissons Adossés and Les Signes. In the bottom right hand corner, you can see some black staining which is caused by a fungus.
